I've had good lessons there... one of my language teachers was from Auckland (like, in NZ), and initially I was wondering what "disks" she was talking about, in what kind of "bid" she was sleeping, and what "writs" would be doing on a ship. Only when she talked about "dith" I did eventually understand that "Kiwis" habitually turned the short [e] into [I].
At the same time I had Australian English comparisons by watching "Rocko's Modern Life". :-)

This video is the first time that I see the difference between those two accents XD I actually thought you where German (your accent is so like Michael Schumacher’s) as I had never heard a New Zealand..er… before…actually I thought Australians and people from New Zealand had the same accent…Nice to know that they don’t because I have an Australian friend (we where friends here in Colombia but he left to his homeland) and sometimes when I call him, his brother answer and MY GOD!! Is so hard to understand him!!! So, is nice to see that they are the only one that have the ability to speak and not being understood XD ....

by the way! this is my favorite video!! XD
